Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to generate a password on a website?

Here, yes: passwords are generated on your device by your browser's cryptographic random generator (crypto.getRandomValues) and are never transmitted, logged, or stored. The page even works offline — try airplane mode.

How long should a password be?

16+ characters for anything important. Length beats complexity: a 20-character password with letters and digits is far stronger than 8 characters with every symbol.

What does the entropy number mean?

Entropy (in bits) measures how hard a password is to guess: every extra bit doubles the guessing work. 60+ bits is decent, 80+ is strong, 100+ is excellent.
